As technology advances, we're given many apparatus' that help us in our everyday lives. Internet access to the sex offender list has been one of the best tools the internet provides. From the comfort of our homes, we can virtually browse through a listing of our neighbors. Hopefully the list will be small. I say this because the list I'm referring to is the Sex offender list. This list tends to be smaller in rural areas, while it can be quite frightening in inner cities.
Unfortunately, we really don't have much of a say when someone deemed undesirable moves into our neighborhood. Nevertheless, it's our duty to check out the people living in our communities. While we should be curious about the 'new guy who's moving in across the street,' we should know who's already been living among us for some time. Be responsible, check the sex offender list to see who's living in your area.
Most people are surprised when they find someone they know on the sex offender list. It's a frightening experience that can't be duplicated. Especially if this person has conversations with children in the neighborhood. If you know that someone on the sex offender list has been communicating with children, whether it be in person or on the internet, you should alert authorities immediately. Most of these people are on strict probation which prohibits contact with anyone under the age of 18.
If you actually do find someone you're close to on the sex offender list, you should stop associating with them if you have children. While they may seem kind and harmless, sexual acts against children are acts of violence. Therefore, that person has a violent history. Is that someone you want around your kids? No, it most certainly is not.
It's important to note that the people on the sex offender list do not match a specific criteria. They come in both sexes, all ages, sizes, ethnic backgrounds, and colors. They only thing they share in common are the sick crimes they committed. These are crimes that can not be erased, undone, forgiven, or forgotten.
Robbing a child of their childhood is one of the most serious crimes and it should be punishable. While most criminal are outraged that their information is on the sex offender list, it should be there. They will be marked in their community as a social misfit. That's part of their punishment. This list has been a gem to people throughout the United States. It helps protect everyone and it acts as an aid to keep sex offender's at bay.
